5 Kid Tested and Approved Book for Dental Health
4:40 PMHello! Welcome to my first post on Conversations from the Classroom. I'm very excited to be sharing with you today!
A short note about me- My name is Crystal and I have been teaching for 15 years. I believe in helping teachers find balance by providing easy to use resources and ideas to fill their bustling classroom. I'm a single mom of the most perfect 9 year old boy.
I LOVE children's literature, so today I am sharing with you some books you can use to prepare for Dental Health month. The American Dental Association sponsors Children's Dental Health month each February as a way of raising awareness for and encouraging good dental health. The dentist, however, can be a scary place for kids. Several of the books I have found feature the dentists office and would be great for introducing the dentist.
#1 Snacks for Healthy Teeth by Mari Schuh
This book is a sweet book about how one little girl, Teresa, takes care of her teeth.
Teresa takes care of her teeth by eating healthy snacks and brushing her teeth.
I found this book on myOn which is an online literacy environment filled with books! My favorite feature is that the website reads the book to the student.
#2 Out and About At the Dentist by Bitsy Kemper
In this book, a teacher takes her class on a field trip to the dentist office. Students meet the people who work at the office and see the equipment that is used. This book is a great way to dispel some of the fear involved with going to the dentist.
#3 Let's Meet a Dentist by Bridget Heos and Kyle Poling
This book is a Cloverleaf book and part of a Community Helpers series. It's similar to Out and About at the Dentist in that it features a class going on a field trip and showcases the parts of the office, the people and the machines used.
I found this book on Amazon and it's a Kindle Unlimited book. I like to pull Kindle Unlimited books up on my activboard and read them out loud that way!
#4 Who Needs Teeth? by Sally Huss
This story starts with a simple question- Who needs teeth? Each page has an answer in adorable, rhyming verse that extols the virtues of teeth!
This is another Amazon Unlimited book and could be a great way to introduce a dental health unit!
#5 Just Going to the Dentist by Mercer Mayer
I have saved the best for last! Who doesn't LOVE Mercer Mayer books. I have an entire basket in my Book Nook. It is one of the most popular baskets.
In this story, L'il Critter doesn't think he needs to go to the dentist, but his mom takes him anyway. At the office, he finds out the dentist isn't very scary after all.
Do you have a book that you love to use for Dental Health? Tell me the name in the comments section, I would love to check it out!
