As you wrap up the school year, you are probably starting to think about your time away from your kiddos, but if you are like me, you see it as an opportunity to touch that ever growing stack of books on your night stand that have been collecting dust for the whole school year because you had no time to read them.  The following are five books that were newly released (within the last 30-60 days) that all teachers would benefit from reading this summer, so add these to your shopping cart.  These are the latest and greatest ideas and will help you develop as an educator over the summer.

Google Classroom is all the rage and this book lays out 99 tricks and tips for helping you maximize all the benefits of using a digital classroom.  The authors lay out the material in an easy to read and understand format and provide information for district and school-wide implementation too.  Whether you are a technology guru or a novice, this book has something for everyone when it comes to Google tools for educators.

Beyond the Flannel Board: Story-Retelling Strategies across the Curriculum  by M. Susan McWilliams 

Are you looking for new ways to engage your youngest readers in story telling (and retelling)?  This book provides strategies that take into account the child's social-emotional development and incorporates STEAM too!  

It Won't Be Easy: An Exceedingly Honest (and Slightly Unprofessional) Love Letter to Teaching by Tom Rademacher 

If you are thinking about entering the field of education or maybe you already have and are underwhelmed by what you have decided to do, this might be the book for you.  The author tells it to you like he sees it and doesn't glamorize anything!  He wrote the book he wished he would have had his first year as a teacher.

A is for Autism: A Child's View by Amy Sturkey

ABC picture books are great at every level and this one is no exception.  It is written from the point of view of a child with autism and provides some characteristics that are generally present in children with autism.  This would open up a great conversation about autism in a general education classroom and is a good refresher for all teachers too.  

Teaching Math with Google Apps: 50 G Suite Activities by Alice Keeler and Diana Herrington

Are you teaching math this year??? This book provides 50 activities that you can do within Google Apps to help teach math.  Technology is so engaging and therefore worthy of 2 books on my list! :)
