Hopscotch:
A World of Math Waiting To Be Explored!

Hopscotch has been around for hundreds of years. Here is a link for you if you want to read about the rules and the layout of hopscotch.
However!✋
I want you to think out of the box!💭
Use Hopscotch as a
MATH Game!
Instead of throwing a marker, think of various ways students can hop to count, add, subtract, multiply, divide.
The ways are endless!
Examples:
Counting: Let the students hop in order to count from one to ten, or count backwards from ten to one. Hop only to even numbers, or to odd numbers.
Adding: Hop to two numbers that add to five, such as one plus four, and two plus three.
Combinations for ten: one plus nine! Can they make a big enough jump from one to get to nine? 😓
Two plus eight, three plus seven, four plus six, five plus five.
Subtraction: Start at five and subtract two, where are you now? 😊
Do this with any number!
Multiplication: Multiples of two and three are the easiest!
Multiply two times two and land on four.
Division: Easy: ten divided by five and you land on two.
Harder: Twenty divided by four: land on five.
Extension: Set up small groups and let them make up their own math equations for the other groups to hop.
As you can see, this can be a delightful way to practice facts, while getting exercise at the same time! 😉
